Jessica’s Diary
Sunday, July 5th, 2009
We leave in a few days time and Jessica’s main job will be to keep a diary of our 8 week trip through her own 8-year old eyes. She will keep a hand-written version that she can also draw and glue things into. We’ll transfer photos of her diary and translate on her behalf into text via website. We’ve created a new blog (category) under our ‘Kids Page’ called ’Jessica’s Diary’ in preparation but will add any observations/comments from an adult’s view through this, our own regular diary/blog also.
Things we’re hoping for Jessica to include:
Where we’re going, how we’re travelling, who’s travelling, leave date, duration, map, ferry tickets, photos, drawings, distance travelled, cost of trip, money/denomination, best day, worst day, what I hated / loved most, 24-hour clock use, start and finish mileage (and at each major milestone if possible), a bit about learning and logging eastings and northings (longitude & latitude - our effort to try to teach some Geography!) plus map and compass reading, duties, equipment we’ve brought/used, facts about the area/place visited, a typical day (to get idea of daily routine), what missed the most from home (Jessica is already saying - TV!), daily diary, what we packed, religion, culture, language / phrases learned & used, immediate thoughts on arrival to each country, typical food, longest trip in the car, how many ferries, people met, other transport used.
We plan for Jessica to spend about an hour per day either on diary / journal but other areas of focus include reading, writing postcards, maths and spelling. Rewards will be swimming, cycling, site-seeing, lazing and giving mum and dad jip with moans and groans about whatever the flavour of the day is (usually her troublesome little brother!).
