New Camera for 8 Year Old - Canon Ixus 80IS

It was Jessica’s 8th birthday a few days ago and following research on suitable cameras capable of taking video, good quality snapshots and easy handling/storage for her age, we decided to invest more money than planned and opted for a Canon Ixus 80IS. We purchased as part of a printer package combination set offered by John Lewis for £179. We could have got the camera alone for £137 but decided to splash out further and have some fun (printer will not come with us on our travels).
Much more money than we had ever planned to spend on Jessica and her first ever camera but we figured that if we bought decently then us adults could also utilise when needed.
Our immediate impressions were that this camera too small for us adults to handle but once we acclimatised, we were really glad to have opted for this particular make and model. Images are clean and crisp and automatic mode makes it a doddle for Jessica to operate (even our 4-year old adapted easily - with some care in his little hands). Video footage and sound is good, there is a view finder and battery life approx 1.5 hours. It is compact and light to carry with 8MP - overall impression - excellent. Jessica, AJ and mum and dad now fighting over it - we all want one! We still need to learn how to zoom in and utilise better but considering we are complete beginners, we are delighted with our purchase.
