Ferry Booked for Summer 2009 Shake Down Trip

Monday, January 19th, 2009

We have been researching locations, dates, campsites, timings and have decided to that we will drive to France, Spain, Morrocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Italy and then homeward bound this summer as part of a much needed preparatory shakedown trip. Taking approx. 8 weeks to complete, we will use our Land Rover 110 CSW and Jurgens Xplorer Off Road Caravan. The experience should give us a good idea of what we and the children are letting ourselves in for in time for the big trip to Australia during 2010.

The itinerary is a bit tight but includes plenty of stop/rest points with what we think are suitable durations along the way. Also concentrates the mind in terms of having to refine to ‘must see’ sites/locations/areas. Budget plays a major part also. To mark the official beginning of our trip we have just booked and paid for the ferry ticket from Dover to Calais (one- way) for mid-July - so now there is no going back! DisneyLand Paris of course remains on the agenda as a top priority and virtually number one stop point for the children.

Very high-level plan which is currently subject to change at any time, as follows:

France, 19 days

Includes Paris and vicinity, Mont St Michel, Loire Valley, Clermont Ferrand, Millau & Bezier

Pyrennees, 4 days

Spain, 5 days

with Alhambra en-route and final destination Algeciras

Morrocco, 5 days

Entering at Tangier

Algeria, 5 days

Tunisia, 5 days

Italy & homeward bound, 10 days
