Royal Geographic Society - Section for Kids?

Tuesday, August 19th, 2008

We have been struggling to find geographical resources for our children and on looking at the RGS website www.rgs.org and wanting to eagerly find some colourful, bright and zany information from this wonderful organisation are instead left wondering ‘why’ there isn’t a web resource section dedicated to children aimed at e.g. age 5 - 11 years?
We have been looking at the ‘National’ Geographic website www.nationalgeographic.com and it is immediately captivating plus there is a Kids section (with games!) along with subscription option to a magazine. Our children (as most) have sponges for brains and very active imaginations and would love it if RGS had something interesting to them to offer. We have written to RGS about their website as a result. Maybe RGS have already considered and have plans or good reasons against. Whatever the response we would be really interested in hearing. We want to join RGS and for our children to become lovers of the organisation and of Geography but it looks like National Geographic may have to become our preferred choice as a resource. If anyone has any comments, we’d be glad to hear from them.
