Fellow Travellers Websites (with children!)
Thursday, June 12th, 2008
Here is a list of the websites of fellow travellers (with children!) we have come across:
Family overlanders using vehicles
Already completed travels
www.a2b.uk.net Pete Sinclair and his family including 3 children and their Land Rover CSW who journeyed though Europe, Middle East, Africa to Cape Town in 2002. What is really special about the Sinclair family is their daughter Poppy - aged 8 at the time - an insulin dependant diabetic since 2 years old so they had extra complications associated with that, but all went well without a problem. What we really liked is what we read about the similar considerations given re: children and 2nd row seating arrangements. Hoping we might be able to pick Pete’s brain over the next year re: CSW. Pete has already provided some information regarding children’s education as follows:
“I have to say that our kids missed virtually nothing in the 7 - 8 months we were away. They were all at Primary School at the time and caught up with stuff within a couple of weeks on our return. We used to chant the times tables every day for 20 minutes when we were driving and the kids kept journals which we emailed back to the schools”.
www.2c2k.net - 2capes2kids - Andrew and Anne Louden and their two young girls who overlanded from Scotland (Cape Wrath to Cape of Good Hope) across Africa during April - November 2007 for a period of 7 months using a Toyota Landcruiser and 2.4. x 2.4 Howling Moon roof tent (we almost considered buying one ourselves!)
www.vlinderen.com - Dutch family and their two children who spent 945 days!!!! on the road and have been back since 2008. Excellent site and we are hoping to pick up home schooling tips!
www.drive-to-oz.com - Graham and Eirenne Naismith and their 3 children - departed May 2008 and returned mid-February 2009 using a Toyota Land Crusier. Stopped en-route in China in time for the 2008 Olympics, car blew up in Thailand which was a bit touch and go. Finally completed their circum-navigation of Australia using a rented vehicle.
www.adventurefamily.se - Lovely website. Adventures of two Swedish families with children and two Land Rovers who returned early 2009.
Currently on the Road
www.ringdahlfamily.blogspot.com - The Ringdahl Family and their FOUR children using an especially extended Land Rover to do their trip.
An Argentinian family with children (all born on the road) called the Zapp family who wrote a book a best-selling book called ‘Spark your Dream’ from the back of their fantastic car. Have been travelling for sometime and are currently in Australia. A fellow traveller friend Kai Brethouwer who lives in Australia came across them and had the opportunity to meet this amazing family recently.
Kai Brethouwer (Dutch), his wife (Kiwi) and two children sold there puppet shop/s and home, bought a van, converted it and then headed off into the sunset in August 2009. Were living in Australia and heading for Holland by end 2010.

Hi travelers to be,
Great plans you’re having. Wish we would. But than again, we will again go travel. We now are home for about a year after traveling 945 days. It was awesome. Like I said: Do it again in an instant. Will visit your site more and do hope to see you take off for real. Good luck in preparing things for this “once” in a lifetime, but I warn you: Don’t bet on that “once”, when the travel bug gets you it bites hard.
Here is our website: http://www.vlinderen.com/finchroad.
Partly just in Dutch (as we are Dutch) as of Colombia in English too and of course lots of pictures (and film)
